Former Cubs manager Dale Sveum was unemployed less than three days before deciding to join Ned Yost's coaching staff with the Royals. Sveum agreed to fill an unnamed coaching vacancy Thursday and said he probably will coach third base or become the bench coach, depending on how Yost fills out his staff. Sveum coached for Yost with the Brewers and even took over at the end of the 2008 season when Yost was fired. Perhaps of most importance, Sveum got the Cubs to play hard through the losing.
