The suspension will delay the N.B.A. coaching debut of Kidd, who is entering his first year as a coach after a 19-year playing career. Kidd was charged with driving while intoxicated in July 2012 after he rammed his sport utility vehicle into a telephone pole in the Hamptons around 2 a.m. The incident occurred just days after he signed to play for the Knicks. Kidd, 40, who retired from his playing career after last season, negotiated a plea deal this summer that included community service events and speaking engagements around New York. Kidd could have entered into the plea deal much earlier than he did, and if so, he could have served his suspension as a Knicks player during the 2012-13 season.
